Matthew 25:24-25; "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours."(NKJV)
There could be a lot of reasons why people do not use their gifts. From the text, it is clear that the servant never saw the talent as his, but rather saw it as his master's talent and as a result, did nothing with it.
Many people fail to accept that they have a gift which when well developed can take them places. Never assume that one talent means no talent. Joseph had a gift of interpretation of dreams and that alone took him to the top.
Another reason is the fear of failure and criticism. If you are afraid to fail or be criticized, you will never try. Others also hate to start small, they want to begin big. Starting small is God's own way for preparing us for mighty works in the future. Those who find fault never start something, because they want to start on a perfect note which is almost impossible. Perfection comes as you work with your gift.
Lazy people never start anything. They only talk and accomplish nothing. A lazy man is wiser in his own eyes (Pro 26:16). They always have an excuse why something cannot be done. A lazy man says, there is a lion in the road! (Pro 26:13). Others are not humble enough to learn, they kill their gift with arrogance. Leadership is learned easily by following.
I pray that the Holy Spirit empower you to do exploits with your gift.
Proverbs 18:16 says; "A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men."
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your gift to my life. I have the gift of God in me. I refuse to fail in my gift. I refuse to fear or be discouraged in exploring my gift. My gift will make a way for me, my gift will bring me before great men in Jesus mighty name! Amen!
